  • Please drink responsibly :-)
  • That alcohol has calories in it!
Each gram of alcohol has 7 calories. Compare that to 4 calories per gram of carb, or 9 calories per gram of fat. That means a spirt has about 97 calories per shot, a glass of wine has about 123 calories per glass and a beer has about 154 calories per glass!
  • Note: Nutrition data is only an estimate!
Alcoholic beverage producers are not mandated to label their products with nutrition information. We bring you estimated nutrition information based on the following: Standard serving sizes: * beer - 12 fluid ounces * wine - 5 fluid ounces * spirits - 1.5 fluid ounces
  • Light Beer vs. Regular Beer ?
Light beer is light because it has less calories. But how do they do it? Alcohol in general is high in calories, so the only way to dramatically cut the calories is to cut the alcohol. Budweiser Select, for example, has only 2.4% alcohol (variable). Other light beers also have less alcohol than their "regular" versions. And do they have less flavor? Depends on who you ask. If you're a beer aficionado or are going to savor a beer with dinner, we say choose taste over calories. While one beer can add up to anywhere from 100-200 calories, two light beers will be about the same.
  • Where's the Beer Nutrition Info???
Manufacturers are not required to list full nutritional information for beer. So by popular demand, we put together some information on beer nutrition. It's based on a 12 oz can of regular beer (about 1/3 of a liter). The good news is that beer is fat free, cholesterol free and has no regular sugars. The sugar used in processing turns into alcohol - that's where most of the calories come from. Beers with higher percentages of alcohol have more calories - so bock, triple bock, etc. will pack more calories per serving than a regular beer. One regular beer is about 150 calories, 13 grams of carbs and about 14 grams of alcohol. A typical light beer has about 110 calories, 7 grams of carbs and 12 grams of alcohol. A very light beer has around 95 calories, 3 grams of carbs and 12 grams of alcohol. Enjoy your beer and remember that 3 cans of beer = 450 calories, which is almost a quarter of your daily calories (2000 calorie a day diet).
  • Don't cry over spilled wine . . .
You may not know it, but BEER can be used to erase red wine spills like magic. Here's how: 1.) Blot the excess wine with a paper towel or cloth. Do not rub in! 2.) Pour beer over the wine stain, blot dry. Pour more beer, blot dry again. Repeat until red wine is gone. You may get left with a light beer stain, but this is easy to get out with regular soap (unlike red wine). So next time someone spills red wine, amaze your friends with this cool party trick! And don't use dark beer for this . . .
