  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 Combine sugar and flour in bowl.
  • 2 Melt butter, shortening, water, and cocoa powder and brink to a boil.
  • 3 Pour mixture over sugar and flour.
  • 4 Stir well.
  • 5 Add remaining ingrdeients and stir until smooth.
  • 6 Pour into two greased and floured layer cake pans.
  • 7 Bake at 325 for twenty-five to thirty minutes.
  • 8 Cool thoroughly before frosting.
