Thanks to one of my favorite Zaar vegetable recipes for inspiring this herb mixture. I make a small jar of this, then have it on hand when I need a quick ZIP to add to cooked (frozen) broccoli or cauliflower or vegetable medleys. Ideas below for add-ins to make a memorable side dish the kids will be begging you to make again and again! Ingredients:
4 teaspoons salt |
2 teaspoons garlic powder |
2 teaspoons paprika |
2 teaspoons ground ginger |
2 teaspoons dry mustard |
toasted breadcrumbs |
panko breadcrumbs |
butter |
parmesan cheese |
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, combine Flavor Mixture ingredients; store in a small jar with a tight lid. 2. Add 1 - 2 teaspoons of Flavoring Mixture (use your own judgment of how much you'd like to add) to your broccoli or cauliflower or asparagus (about a minute before serving, along with some melted butter and a couple hands-ful of crumbs. Stir well and finish heating per package instructions. 3. I've sprinkled French-fried onions over the top (they don't get crunchy but they add enormous flavor!, and that's been met with rave reviews too. 4. Sprinkle some parmesan cheese over the top OR another handful of crunchy bread crumbs and serve. 5. This mixture (and the toasted crumbs) will jazz up even the most boring frozen veggies-into something sort-of special. |
