This is an incredible pie that comes from my mother-in-laws collection. She is one of the best bakers I have ever met. She grew her own figs, blackberries, strawberries and always made the most incredible cakes and pies. Read more . Enjoy Ingredients:
3 cups all purpose flour |
1 cup granulated sugar |
1/4 cup cornstarch |
1-1/2 cups butter cut into 1 pieces |

2 eggs |
1 cup brown sugar firmly packed |
1/2 cup orange juice |
3 tablespoons lemon juice |
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2 cups california dried figs stems removed |
1 cup pitted dates |
1 cup walnuts |
Directions:
1. In food processor or mixer bowl combine flour sugar and cornstarch for pastry. 2. Add butter and process until dough holds together then divide into thirds. 3. Roll out two thirds of dough on a baking sheet to reach all corners evenly. 4. Prick with fork then bake at 350 for 15 minutes. 5. Roll out remaining dough between plastic wrap to rectangle about half the size of baking sheet. Cut into long strips about 1/4 wide. 6. Combine eggs, brown sugar, juices, lemon peel and vanilla for filling in food processor. 7. Blend well then add figs, dates and nuts and process until evenly minced. 8. Spread filling over baked pastry and top with strips of dough criss-crossing diagonally. 9. Return to oven and bake 30 minutes then cool and cut into small bars. |
