Ghoulishly good. I found this recipe in First magazine. I have not tried this recipe, but I'm posting it for safe keeping. Ingredients:
18 1/4 ounces devil's food cake mix |
2/3 cup apricot preserves |
16 ounces vanilla frosting, melted |
2 drops black food coloring |
16 chocolate kiss candies |
32 chocolate kiss candies (mini yellow candy coated chocolates) |
32 jumbo yellow nonpareil candy sprinkles |
32 m&m candies (mini brown candy coated chocolates) |
126 ounces tic tac candies (small white mints) |
Directions:
1. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Pour batter into greased and lined 13 x9 pan. Bake 30 minutes, or until inserted toothpick comes out clean; let cool 15 minutes. Invert onto cooling rack; let cool completely. Trim cake to level. Halve cake horizontally. 2. Coat 1 cake layer with preserves; top with remaining layer. Using 3 oval cookie cutter, cut out 16 cakes; place on rack set in baking sheet. 3. Reserve 1 tablespoon frosting. Stir food coloring into remaining frosting to make grayish swirls; pour over cakes. Chill 10 minutes. Using reserved frosting, attach remaining ingredients to form features. Place zombies on chocolate leaves, if desired. |
