Great for Dahl Baht! Ingredients:
1 c yellow split peas |
5 c water |
2 t butter |
3 cloves garlic |
3/4 t cumin seeds |
3/4 t mustard seeds |
1/2 t turmeric |
1/2 t cinnamon |
3/4 t salt |
Directions:
1. Cover peas with water and bring to a boil. Lower heat, simmer very slowly, partially covered until soft (2-2 1/2 hours). Melt butter in skillet add crushed garlic, cumin, mustard seeds, turmeric and cinnamon. Cook stirring over med heat 3-5 min. Add to cooked peas and stir to mix. Add salt, black pepper and crused red pepper to taste. Add water for creamy consistency or more for soup. |
