Yeasty Buttermilk Biscuits |

A different twist on buttermilk biscuits. The yeast makes for a lighter biscuit Ingredients:
1 (1/4 ounce) package yeast |
2 tablespoons warm water |
5 cups flour |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 1/2 teaspoons salt |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1 cup shortening |
2 cups buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Dissolve yeats in warm water. 2. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and sugar in large bowl. 3. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. 4. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture. 5. Knead. 6. Roll 1/2 think. 7. Cut into biscuits. 8. Bake on greased cookie sheet for 15 minutes at 400 degrees. |
