I think this is another one I got from TOH. Haven't tried it yet, I'm posting it for safekeeping. :) Ingredients:
3 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast |
1/2 cup warm water |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened |
1 (5 ounce) can evaporated milk |
2 eggs, lightly beaten |
1 1/2 teaspoons salt |
2 cups whole wheat flour |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
Directions:
1. In large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in water. 2. Add sugar, butter, milk, eggs, salt and whole wheat flour; beat until smooth. 3. Add enough all-purpose flour to form a soft dough. turn onto floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. 4. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. 5. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 1/2 hours. 6. Punch dough down; divide into thirds. 7. Let rest for 5 minutes. 8. On floured surface, roll out each portion to 1/2 inch thickness. 9. Cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit butter. 10. Place on lightly greased baking sheets. 11. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes. 12. Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. 13. Remove from pans and cool on wire racks. |
