I found this recipe in a newspaper several years ago in a rural Colorado town. I don't remember the name of the paper. My family (kids especially) love weekend mornings when we enjoy these biscuits along with bacon & fruit! Enjoy! Ingredients:
2 cups flour |
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder |
3/4 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 cup butter |
1 cup buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Sift dry ingredients together. 2. Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until it resembles coarse meal. 3. Stir in buttermilk untill all ingredients are wet. 4. Turn onto floured surface, then knead the dough a few times until it's 1/2 inch thick. 5. Cut into 2 inch rounds & place on ungreased cookie sheet. 6. Lightly brush tops of biscuits with milk. 7. Bake in a preheated oven set to 425 for 12-15 minutes, or until tops are golden. 8. Makes about 10-14 biscuits (depending how thick you like yours!) 9. Note: It's VERY important to sift the dry ingredients. I tried making this without sifting, & learned it's worth the extra step! |
