This rather simple dessert recipe is taken from Private Collections: A Culinary Treasure, a cookbook issued by the Women's Committee of the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore in 1973. Ingredients:
1 cup flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 cup sugar |
1 egg |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup canned fruit, not drained |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
1/2 cup chopped nuts |
Directions:
1. Thoroughly mix the first 5 ingredients together until smooth, and then stir in the undrained canned fruit. Well butter an eight by eight inch square baking pan and sprinkle with the topping. Bake in a preheated 325 degree F oven for about 45-50 minutes, until well done. Remove from oven and cool, then slice into 2 inch squares and serve. |
