Taken from a glossy magazine but as yet untried by me. Cooking times will be dependent on pie filling. Ingredients:
2 cups wholemeal plain flour |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 cup wheat germ |
250 g butter or 250 g margarine |
1/4 cup water |
Directions:
1. Sift flour and salt into bowl, add husks left in sifter. 2. Add wheatgerm, lightly mix it into flour. 3. Rub in butter till mix resembles course breadcrumbs. 4. Add water, mix to a firm dough. 5. Knead lightly on a floured and divide in half. 6. Roll out one half to fit 23cm pie plate. 7. Spoon filling of choice into pastry cas. 8. Roll out remaining pastry to cover pie dish. 9. Trim and pinch edges together. 10. Brush top lightly with water. 11. Make a small slit in top of pastrt. 12. Bake pie in moderate oven till pastry is golden, 35 - 45 mins. |
