I based this off another white bread recipe, and decided to see how it would come out with some wheat flour and vital wheat gluten added to give substance and protein. Prep time includes yeast proofing, cook time is estimated using my bread machine's knead and bake cycle for wheat bread. PLEASE NOTE that I'm posting instructions based on a Red Star bread machine with a removable bin, some bread machines require you to put the ingredients in a specific order- please follow those instructions if you don't have a bread machine like mine! Ingredients:
1 cup warm water |
3 tablespoons honey |
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast |
1/4 cup canola oil |
1 teaspoon kosher salt |
1 cup whole wheat flour |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
2 tablespoons vital wheat gluten |
Directions:
1. Proof the yeast in the water with the honey, about 10-15 minutes or until foamy. Do this in a mixing bowl or your bread machine's bin if it's removable. 2. Add the remaining ingredients and knead by hand or until combined. You have to do this for my machine; skip this step if your bread machine does all the work for you. 3. Run through your bread machine's wheat cycle. The white bread cycle won't knead it hard enough. |
