I have a bread bucket , which is sort of like an antique bread machine. When I use it, I like to make 6 loaves of bread at a time, so that's what this recipe makes. Of course, feel free to cut it down to make fewer loaves. You can make 1/6 of this recipe in most automatic bread machines. Ingredients:
3 tablespoons yeast |
1 cup sugar |
2 tablespoons sugar |
18 -21 cups flour |
1 1/2 cups powdered milk |
3 tablespoons salt |
7 1/2 cups water |
24 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces (3 sticks) |
Directions:
1. If you have a bread bucket:. 2. Just put in the water, add the remaining ingredients, and crank for 5 minutes to knead. Let rise till double; crank a couple of times to punch down, then cut into 6 pieces. Shape each piece into a loaf or put into loaf pan. Let rise again until almost doubled. Bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes or till done. 3. If you don't have a bread bucket (and I never make it like this, so if you are an experienced baker, feel free to do this by your own method):. 4. Mix the sugar, yeast, powdered milk and warm water. Let it stand a few minutes, or till it gets bubbly. 5. Add flour, salt, and butter and mix well. Let it rise for 30-60 minutes or so. Punch down and knead till smooth. 6. Shape dough in to loaves and let rise again until almost doubled. 7. Bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes or till done. |
