From a recipe book I got at a yard sale. It was one put together by members of a church and seems to be dated 1976/77. Guess on servings and prep time. Ingredients:
2/3c butter |
1 7/8c flour |
1/2 tsp baking soda |
1/2 tsp lemon juice |
6 egg whites |
1 1/2 c powdered sugar |
2/3c candied cherries |
1/2c thinly sliced citron |
1tsp almond extract |
1/2c blanched and shredded almonds |
Directions:
1. Cream butter. 2. Gradually add flour mixed and sifted with baking soda and lemon juice. 3. Beat egg whites until stiff. 4. Add sugar to egg whites. 5. Combine mixtures and add cherries, almonds, citron, and extract. 6. Bake in greased deep cake tin in moderate oven 350F for 1 hour. |
