Today I made Tortillas for the first time, so I had to share them. I see there are a few other recipes here but they are all different so I'm going to post it. The recipe came from Recipes Live but the picture is mine Ingredients:
prep time includes the rest time for the dough |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/2 tsp salt |
1/4 cup shortening |
1/2 cup warm water |
extra flour for rolling |
Directions:
1. Mix flour & salt together in a bowl 2. Rub shortening into flour with fingers until the mixture has a fine even texture 3. Stir in water to make a soft dough - add more water if needed 4. Knead on a lightly floured board until smooth - about 2 - 3 mins 5. Wrap in plastic & let rest for 20 - 30 mins 6. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces, keeping pieces covered so they don't dry out 7. Form a piece of dough into a ball & then on a lightly floured board, roll out thinly to an approx 10 inch round, turning over several times 8. Set aside & stack between wax paper 9. Repeat with rest of dough 10. Heat an ungreased, large heavy skillet to med/high heat 11. Place a tortilla in skillet & cook until the top is bubbly & the bottom is flecked with brown 12. Turn it over & cook the other side 13. If they puff up, flatten with spatula |
