Wasabi powder, the Japanese version of horseradish, adds sharp, fiery flavor to this tuna salad. Look for this condiment in the Asian section or spice aisle of large supermarkets. If you don't have wasabi, you may substitute 2 teaspoons of horseradish. Or simply omit the wasabi for a traditional tuna salad.
Ingredients:
1 (6-ounce) can solid white tuna in water, drained
2 tablespoons light mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion
1/2 teaspoon wasabi powder (dried japanese horseradish)
2 (6-inch) whole wheat pitas, cut in half
4 red leaf lettuce leaves
4 (1/4-inch-thick) slices tomato (about 1 medium)
Directions:
1. Combine first 5 ingredients in a small bowl; stir well.
2. Line each pita half with a lettuce leaf and tomato slice; fill with 1/4 cup tuna salad.
