This is one of my Mothers old war time recipes. And one of her favorite recipes. She served it with a powered sugar frosting Ingredients:
1 c brown sugar |
1/3 c shortening |
2 c flour |
1 1/4 c water |
1 c seedless raisins |
1 tsp salt |
1 tsp nutmeg |
1 tsp cinnamon |
1 tsp soda |
1/2 c chopped dates |
Directions:
1. Boil sugar, water, raisins, dates, shortening, spices and salt 2. together for 3 minutes. 3. When cool add the flour and soda sifted together and beat 4. well. 5. Pour into a greased loaf pan and bake in a moderate oven (325 degrees) for about 45 minutes. |
