This rcipe is an old recipe, an old family favorite. My grandmother made it when I was just a young girl, it was always so delicious. I always enjoyed a big piece with a tall glass of cold milk, Yummy!! Ingredients:
2 cups raisins, seeded |
2 cups hot water |
1/2 cup shortening |
2 cups white sugar |
1 cup cold water |
3 1/2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon clove |
1 teaspoon nutmeg |
Directions:
1. Cook raisins in hot water for 20 minutes. After cooking raisins pour them over the sugar and shortening and stir well and set aside. Let cool overnight or until shortening hardens. 2. The next day, add cold water and rest of ingredients and pour into a well greased and floured 9x13 pan, and bake in a 350F oven for 45 - 60 minutes. 3. Cool for a few minutes and remove from pan. |
