A cake my grandmother made for her children. Quite simple, you can basically find just about everything in your cupboard, Ingredients:

3 cups flour |
2 cups sugar |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
6 tablespoons cocoa |
2 teaspoons vanilla |
2 tablespoons vinegar |
10 tablespoons melted shortening or 10 tablespoons corn oil |
2 cups cold water |
frosting |
1 cup sugar |
3/4 cup shortening |
3 tablespoons flour |
1/2 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 dash salt |
Directions:
1. CAKE;. 2. Preheat oven to 350. 3. Sift all dry ingredients into a large bowl. 4. Make 3 holes in mixture. 5. Place Vanilla in one hole, Vinegar in another, and Melted Shortening/Oil in another. 6. Pour 2 Cups Cold Water over all and beat thoroughly 7. Bake in long 9x13 pan for 30-40 minutes 8. FROSTING;. 9. Beat all ingredients in large bowl for 15 minutes, spread over cooled cake. |
