The tomatoes can be made up to 2 days ahead and the salt weeks in advance. Use the drained vodka from the tomatoes in your next bloody mary! Not sure where I found this recipe, but sure am glad I did. Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups cherry or grape tomatoes (i like the grape. they're smaller) |
2/3 cup vodka |
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce |
12 drops hot pepper sauce |
1 clove garlic, crushed |
for the salt |
1/3 cup kosher or sea salt |
zest of 1/2 lemon |
1/2 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper, or to taste |
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed (i use a mortar and pestle) |
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, or more to taste |
Directions:
1. Cut a small cross in base of each tomato. Place in bowl. 2. Add vodka, Worcestershire, hot pepper sauce and garlic and gently stir. 3. Cover and chill 24 hours up to 2 days. 4. Combine salt ingredients. Let stand at least 2 hours up to weeks. 5. Drain tomatoes, reserving vodka for another use. 6. Serve tomatoes with shallow bowl of dipping salt. |
