found this old recipe pamphlet...at an estate sale...thought I would share it here is anyone remembers Rumford baking powder.. Ingredients:
1/4 cup shortening |
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed |
1 large egg |
2/3 cup molasses |
2 1/2 cups flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon ginger |
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon |
1/2 cup boiling water |
Directions:
1. cream together the fat and sugar, add the egg and molasses and beat well - 2. Mix and sift in the remaining dry ingredients.adding the boiling water last. 3. Pour into shallow well greased pans or muffin cups - (not sure, but with the tendency of molasses to scorch.I think I will try it in a 13x9 pan first - 4. bake at 325* for 20-25 minutes - Raisins may be added if desired - before adding boiling water - . |
