VIDALIA SWEET ONION CASSEROLE This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Irwin Estate in Jacksonville, Texas in 1987. Ingredients:
3 pounds vidalia onions sliced |
1-1/2 sticks butter |
1 can cream of celery soup |
5 slices swiss cheese |
1 teaspoon salt |
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper |
1/2 cup grated parmesan |
4 slices toasted bread cubed |
Directions:
1. In skillet melt butter and add the onions. 2. Stirring occasionally sauté until onions are tender then add soup and seasonings. 3. Mix until well combined then buttered a rectangular casserole dish. 4. Layer 1/2 of the onion mixture, Swiss cheese, remaining onions, bread and parmesan cheese. 5. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. |
