I got this recipe out of the North Carolina and Old Salem Cookery Cookbook.....I have not made this cake but will make it as soon as I get back home.... Ingredients:
1 cup butter |
2 cups sugar |
2 egg yolks |
2 whole eggs |
1 cup buttermilk |
3/4 teaspoon soda |
2 1/2 cups sifted flour |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Cream butter; add sugar and cream well togeher. 2. Beat in egg yolks and mix well. 3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. 4. Stir soday into buttermilk and add to creamed mixture alternately with flour, blending well. 5. Add vanilla. 6. Pour into three greased layer cake pans and bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until done. 7. Cool and frost with white frosting made from the egg whites left from the 2 yolks unded in the recipe. 8. If baked in a loaf pan, bake at 325 degrees until done. 9. I really think this cake can be cooked in a big 13 x 9 cake pan.... and put a chocolate icing on it..... |
