VANILLA TANGO GELATO This is a recipe I obtained from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Jennet Estate in Allen, Texas in 1983. Ingredients:
1/2 cup granulated sugar |
6 egg yolks |
2 cups milk |
1 vanilla bean split in half lengthwise |
2 teaspoons vanilla extract |
Directions:
1. Whisk together sugar and egg yolks in a saucepan. 2. Place mixture over low heat and whisk in milk then add vanilla bean. 3. Cook stirring until mixture is smooth and lightly thickened. 4. When mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon remove from heat and remove bean. 5. Strain any lumps that formed during cooking then add vanilla extract and stir. 6. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled. 7. Freeze in an ice cream maker following manufacturer's guidelines. |
