Vanilla Sauce For Gingerbread Cake |

This is another of my mother-in-laws recipes. It is a warm vanilla sauce that is delightful served over my gingerbread recipe. Cut 3 inch squares of cake and ladle sauce generously over. YUM Ingredients:
1/2 cup granulated sugar |
2 tbsp cornstarch |
1/4 tsp salt |
2 cups boiling water |
4 tbsp butter |
2 tsp vanilla extract |
dash nutmeg |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a pan. 2. Add the water gradually, stirring constantly. 3. Simmer over low heat for 5 minutes or until clear and thickened, while stirring constantly. 4. Then stir in remaining ingredients. 5. Serve hot; this is not as good cold. Leftovers can be reheated. 6. Makes 2 cups. |
