This is a great recipe for leftover bread. The vanilla is the key ingredient. YUM! Recipe courtesy of Better Homes and Gardens September 2011. Ingredients:
4 eggs, lightly beaten |
1 cup half-and-half or 1 cup milk |
2 tablespoons sugar |
2 teaspoons vanilla |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
8 slices dry white bread or 8 slices whole wheat bread |
2 tablespoons butter or 2 tablespoons vegetable oil |
butter |
maple syrup |
banana, slices |
ground cinnamon |
Directions:
1. In a shallow bowl, beat together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. 2. Dip bread slices into egg mixture, coating both sides. 3. Preheat oven to 200. 4. Place a plate or serving platter in the oven. 5. In a 12 inch skillet or on a griddle, melt 1 tablespoon of the butter over medium heat and spread over cooking surface. 6. Add half the bread slices and cook for 4 to 6 minutes or until golden, turning once. 7. Transfer slices to oven to keep warm. 8. Repeat with remaining butter and bread. 9. Serve with additional butter, maple syrup, and banana slices. 10. Sprinkle with cinnamon. |
