This recipe has been in my family since about 1925. The only thong I changed to make them a little healthier is I use Canola oil instead of melted butter. I use an electric fryer at 375F to fry them in Crisco shortening...do not use oil, it changes the taste completely.
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cup flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp.baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. canola oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup milk
2 eggs
Directions:
1. Mix all dry ingredients together.
2. Mix all wet (except eggs) ingredients together.
3. Using dough hook on your mixer, mix all dry ingredients together then add each egg one at a time.
4. Slowly add in a strem the wet ingredient mix.
5. Mix on med-low speed till it is no longer lumpy, about 4-5 minutes. Dough will be stretchy.
6. Heat Crico in the fryer and bring temperature to 375F.
7. I use a donut maker (looks like a big seringue to drop about six donuts in the fat.
8. Turn them after 2 minutes.
9. Remove after 1 1/2 minute to a prepared cookie sheet lined with paper towels.
10. Let cool about 20 minutes and you can freeze them at this point.
11. You can reheat them from the freezer in a foil at 375f..5-7 minutes.
