This recipe came from my mother-in-law who was not only the best gardener I ever knew but one of the best bakers. I was fortunate enough to inherit her wonderful recipes. This was a recipe she made quite often and we always enjoyed it. Ingredients:
1 cup dark brown sugar |
1 cup maple syrup |
2 cups water |
2 tablespoons flour |
Directions:
1. Boil together for 1 minute and set aside. In a large bowl beat: 2. 1 egg 3. 1 teaspoon vanilla 4. 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar 5. 1 teaspoon baking soda 6. Add to syrup mixture then divide equally in 3 unbaked pie shells. Top with crumb mixture made of: 7. 2 cups pastry flour 8. 1/2 cup lard 9. 1/2 teaspoon soda 10. 1 cup brown sugar 11. 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 12. Bake for 45 minutes in 350 oven. |
