UTAH SHARP CHEDDAR CHEESE BISCUITS This is a recipe I obtained from an Estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Elmhurst Estate in Heath, Texas in 1981. Ingredients:
1/4 pound butter |
4 level teaspoons baking powder |
1 pound sharp cheddar cheese |
4 tablespoons shortening |
2 cups self-rising flour |
milk |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
Directions:
1. Melt butter and cheese together then make smooth paste and allow to cool. 2. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. 3. Cut shortening into flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal. 4. Add enough milk to make soft dough then roll out 1/4 thick. 5. Spread with melted butter then cheese mixture. 6. Roll as for jellyroll then cut 1/2 slices and place on buttered cookie sheet. 7. Place cut side up and two across pan. 8. Crowd them together lengthwise because they spread then bake at 375 for 20 minutes. |
