Old recipe handed-down. Picked huckleberries in the morning, baked pie & cakes in the afternoon Ingredients:
2 heaping tbsp. crisco |
1 cup sugar |
1 egg 2 tsp. baking powder |
2 cups flour |
1 cup milk |
1 qt. huckleberries or blueberries |
1 cup hot water |
1 cup sugar |
Directions:
1. Mix well the Crisco, sugar and egg 2. Add baking powder, flour and milk and beat well. 3. Put batter in 9 x 13 in. dish and put berries over batter. 4. Mix hot water and sugar and dissolve; pour over berries. 5. Bake in oven at 375 degrees for 1/2 hr. to 45 min., just so the cake comes to top and berries go to bottom. |
