This recipe comes from the Ellis Island Immigrant cookbook. It originates from Russia. I will never stuff cabbage rolls agian! Ingredients:
1 head cabbage |
1 medium onion, diced |
1 (28 ounce) can tomatoes |
1 lb ground turkey |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon sugar |
1 tablespoon ketchup |
pepper |
1 lemon, juice of |
1 teaspoon sugar |
5 gingersnaps, crumbled |
Directions:
1. wash and shred cabbage. 2. arrange in bottom of a deep pot. 3. add onion and tomatoes and meatballs made by mixing. 4. turkey,salt, sugar, ketchup and pepper and shaping into balls. 5. add enough tomato juice to cover cabbabge and meat. 6. add lemon, remaining sugar and gingersnaps. 7. cover and simmer 1-2 hours. |
