2 lbs green cabbage |
1 lb hamburger |
1 egg |
1/4 cup raw rice |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 (16 ounce) can tomatoes |
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce |
1/4 cup vinegar |
3/4 cup brown rice |
2 tablespoons lemon juice |
5 small potatoes, cut up |
1 1/2 cups water |
Directions:
1. Cut cabbage in wedges or chunks (not fine as for coleslaw) and place in bottom of large Dutch oven. Mix tomatoes , tomato sauce, vinegar, brown sugar, lemon juice, and water together. Cover and cook over medium high heat briefly. 2. Mix hamburger, egg, salt, and uncooked rice together and make into meatballs (about 18 - 20) Place on top of cabbbage mixture. Cover pot. Lower heat and simmer gently for 2 1/2 hours Add raisins last 45 minute (optional) Makes about 10 servings and freezes well. |
