These turtle-shaped rolls are very easy to make and have wonderful peanutty flavor. This recipe comes from Fleishman Yeast and is an old time favorite in my home. Sometimes I make mini turtles and serve them like biscuits. Read more . Kids of all ages seem to enjoy the shape of these rolls so let your family members help you roll them out. They look very cute in a bowl on any dinner or buffet table for any holiday gathering. Enjoy! Ingredients:
3/4 cup milk |
1/2 cup water |
1/3 cup peanut butter |
1 teaspoon salt |
3 cups bread flour |
1/3 cup sugar |
1-1/2 teaspoons fleischmann's bread machine yeast |
egg glaze |
chopped peanuts and/or sugar, optional raisins or date pieces |
Directions:
1. Add milk, water, peanut butter, salt, flour, sugar and yeast to bread machine pan in the order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough/manual cycle. 2. When cycle is complete, remove dough from machine to a lightly floured surface. If necessary, knead in enough flour to make dough easy to handle. Divide dough into 6 equal portions; make 1 turtle from each portion following this procedure: Reserve one-fourth of portion. Shape remaining dough into smooth ball for body. Place on greased baking sheet. Divide reserved dough in half. From 1 half, pinch off piece and roll to small rope for tail; form remaining piece into oblong head. Attach head and tail to body; pinch to seal. Divide remaining piece into 4 equal pieces. Roll to 2-inch ropes for legs; place partially under body in appropriate places. Repeat with remaining dough to make 6 turtles. Cover; let rise in warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 1 hour. 3. With scissors, make small snips in dough (about 1/4-inch deep) across body to mark shell. Make 2 small cuts at end of each leg to make webbed feet. Brush with Egg Glaze; sprinkle with peanuts and/or sugar, if desired. Insert raisin or date pieces for eyes. 4. Bake at 375oF for15 minutes or until done. Remove from sheet; cool on wire rack. 5. Egg Glaze: In a small bowl, combine 1 egg and 1 tablespoon water. Stir to blend 6. ** I double this recipe all the time without any problems. If you want to get creative, you can add some green food coloring to the egg wash or use cake decorating colors to paint color on the turtles. |
