These are as cute as they are tasty will have to get to and make some to show you what they look like Ingredients:
for the roses |
1 cup thick yoghurt |
1 cup cornflour |
650-700g flour (700g = 3 cups) |
125g butter (just short of 1 cup) |
1 tsp baking powder |
half a cup olive oil |
quatered walnuts |
for the syrup |
500g sugar (1lb) |
500ml water (1pint) |
nice big lemon, squeezed |
Directions:
1. Mix cornflour and flour together with the baking powder 2. sieve into large bowl 3. cut in butter 4. add yoghurt and olive oil 5. mix into soft dough 6. take a pinch of dough about as big as the tip of your thumb and roll out into a thin circle about 2.5inc diameter (I just squash between my palms and use the side of my hand) 7. without cutting through the middle make 4 cuts in the dough N, S, W and E. 8. take a quater walnut and stand up in the centre 9. wrap first one petal gently around the nut 10. then wrap the next petal around and so on 11. bake for about 25 -30 min or until puffed up and lightly browned 12. at 270C in middle of oven 13. for the syrup 14. bring all ingredients to the boil, simmer for 5 min or longer if you prefer a thicker syrup 15. pour over the roses when you serve them |
