Doughnuts with a German background ... Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter, softened |
1 cup sugar |
2 large egg yolks, beaten |
1 large egg, beaten |
4 cups unbleached flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
3/4 cup buttermilk or 3/4 cup sour milk |
confectioners' sugar |
Directions:
1. Cream the butter and sugar. 2. Stir in egg yolks and whole egg; blend. 3. In a separate bowl, sift all dry ingredients except the confectioners' sugar; add to creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk. 4. Stir to mix all ingredients. 5. Cook by dropping spoonsfuls of dough into 375 degree F deep fat. 6. Fry a few at a time, to keep fat temperature constant. 7. Turn to brown on all sides. 8. Drain on paper towels; sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. |
