Most biscuits use shortening as the fat and shortening is loaded with transfats, which isn't exactly healthy. I created this recipe so I could enjoy biscuits without the guilt. They are buttery and light. Enjoy! Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/2 tsp salt |
1/2 tsp cream of tartar |
4 tsp baking powder |
1 stick (1/4 lb) cold butter |
2/3 cup milk |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 while mixing biscuits 2. Mix all dry ingredients together and sift into mixing bowl 3. Drop in cold buter and cut in with pastry blender until dough resembles smll crumbs 4. Add milk all at once and stir with a fork untildoughholds together 5. Turn out on lightly floured surface and GENTLY knead about 12 - 14 times, less than one minute 6. Dough should be smooth and soft and not sticky. 7. Pat into 8 inch square, about 1/2 inch thick 8. With a sharp knife divide dough into 16 squares, or use a round cutter to make biscuits 9. For soft biscuits place next to each other (touching) in ungreased cake pan. 10. For browner, crustier biscuits, place one inch apart on ungeased baking pan. 11. Bake at 425 for about 15 minutes. 12.
