Plantains, twice fried. One of my moms favorite dish. Ingredients:
2 unripe green plantains |
1/2 cup oil(for frying) |
1/2 cup of salted water in a bowl |
wood tostonera(optional) |
Directions:
1. Heat the oil in a heavy frying pan over medium high heat 2. Peel Plantains and slice diagonally into 1-inch pieces. 3. Fry the plaintains a few pieces at a time until they brown on all sides. 4. Remove and put on a paper towel lined plate. 5. Keep oil in frying pan on over the medium high heat 6. Take a tostonera or small plate to press each slice to a thickness of about 1/3-inch. 7. Dip the flattened plantains in the salted water. 8. Immediately return part of the flattened slices to the hot oil and fry again on each side until well browned and crispy. 9. Drain on paper towels and repeat with the remaining flattened slices. 10. Voila Tostones |
