This recipe comes from my Japanese friend Toshi who got it from his grandmother. These are better than I have had in any restaurant! They're some work but always a huge hit at a party. Ingredients:
2 lbs. ground beef (or pork or turkey) |
2 large leeks, diced |
2 bunches green onions, diced |
5 or 6 tsp. garlic, minced |
3 or 4 tsp. ginger, minced |
pinch salt |
1 tbsp. soy sauce |
1-2 tbsp. sesame oil |
olive to cook dumplings |
60 (approx.) round wonton wrappers |
dipping sauce |
1 tbsp. garlic, minced |
1/2 tbsp. ginger, minced |
1 1/2 tbsp. sesame oil |
1/4 cup rice vinegar |
1/2 cup soy sauce |
hot oil (ra-yu) to taste i like more! find this in the asian aisle of your grocery |
Directions:
1. Mix together all ingredients well. 2. Form balls with 1-2 tsp. of mixture and wrap in round wonton wrappers, sealed with water. 3. Heat 1-2 Tbsp. olive oil in a skillet and cook dumplings until brown on the bottom. 4. Dissolve 2 tsp. corn starch in 1/2 cup hot water and pour it into the pan and cover immediately. 5. Cook over a medium heat until the water is evaporated. 6. Dipping Sauce 7. Heat sesame oil in a small pan. Mix garlic and ginger in a mixing bowl. 8. Pour hot sesame oil over the garlic/ginger mixture. 9. Add rice vinegar and soy sauce and mix well. 10. Use as a dipping sauce for the cooked gyoza. |
