A torte is a cake made with lotsa ground nuts instead of or in addition to flour . They are Central European in origin. The word torte is derived from the Italian word torta which was used to describe a round cake . Read more . A element common to most tortes is sweet icing . When the cake is layered, a thick covering of icing is placed between the layers, but there is almost always icing on the tops and sides of the torte. Ingredients:
150 g walnuts |
150 g hazelnuts |
1 tsp baking pwd |
4 eggs |
1/2 c caster sugar |
filling and frosting |
2 c cream and 1 tsp vanilla essence - whipped |
100 g mixed nuts , roasted and chopped |
! tbsp cocoa / coffee pwd |
hazelnut chocolates |
Directions:
1. Pre heat oven at 175 deg . 2. Grease a 22 cm springform pan . 3. Process the nuts until finely chopped . 4. Beat the egg whites until peaks form . 5. Beat the eggs yolks and sugar until creamy . 6. Fold the yolks into nuts and add the baking pwd . 7. now , fold this into whites gently using a metal knife . 8. Pour in the pan and bake for 30 mins or until the top of the cake is springy . 9. Cool completely and turn on a wire rack . 10. Cut the cake into 2 , horizontally . 11. Spead the cream on top of one layer and place the second layer on top . 12. Spread the reats of the cream on top and sides . 13. Sprinkle the chopped nuts on side of the cake . 14. Pipe the extra cream around the edge . 15. Dust the top with the pwd and decorate with the hazelnut chocolates . |
