Fast and fun to make with the kids. I cut these into 1 by 3 inch serving pieces, but you can cut it any way you choose. They're rich and buttery, so I find the 1x3 serving just fine and then I eat two (or three or . Read more . . . I'd better stop now.) Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 cup flour |
1 14-ounce can condensed milk |
2 tablespoons butter |
2 teaspoons vanilla |
1 to 2 cups chopped pecans |
1 cup chocolate chips |
Directions:
1. Beat the 1/2 cup butter with the sugar and salt. Stir in flour. Pat into the bottom of an ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. 2. Make the toping while the pastry is baking. 3. In a heavy saucepan, heat condensed milk and 2 tablespoons butter, stirring constantly. Cook for five minutes more. Mixture will thicken and become smooth. 4. Stir in vanilla and spread over baked layer. 5. Sprinkle pecans over caramel. Bake an additional 12 to 15 minutes or until golden. 6. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the bars. Let stand for 2 or 3 minutes. Spread evenly with an offset spatula. 7. Let cool completely. Cut into bars when cool 8. NOTE: I've made these in a 10 x 10 pan with great success. |
