My step-mom-in-law made these broiled, open-faced sandwiches once and although I had never eaten deviled ham before, nor had I ever had any desire to, they were yummy. It's easy enough and good enough to impress company for a lunch or brunch. Be creative with variations of ingredients and toppings. Mmm! Ingredients:
1 (4 1/4 ounce) can deviled ham (like underwood brand) |
1 tablespoon dill relish, drained (more or less to taste) |
1/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded |
2 slices bread (left-over hamburger buns or kaiser rolls work great) |
2 slices garden-ripe tomatoes |
1/4 cup velveeta cheese, cubed very small |
Directions:
1. Mix the first 3 ingredients together. 2. Spread onto 2 slices of bread. 3. Pop into the broiler for just a few minutes, watching to make sure they don't burn. 4. Add tomatoes if using. If you desire to broil the tomatoes, broil the spread and bread a little first, then add the tomatoes and broil a little longer to desired doneness. 5. Serve hot with some tomato soup and enjoy! |
