These cookies are one of the most requested. The kids love to help you make these. And they REALLY love to eat them! Ingredients:
1/4 cup packed brown sugar |
1/4 cup shortening |
1/4 cup butter, softened |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |
1 egg, separated |
1 cup flour |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
3/4 cup finely chopped nuts |
jelly |
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350*. 2. Cream sugar, shortening, butter, vanilla and egg yolk. 3. Stir in flour and salt until dough holds together. 4. Shape into 1 inch balls. 5. Beat egg white slightly. 6. Dip each cookie ball in the egg white; roll in the nuts. 7. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet. 8. Press thumb deeply in center of each. 9. Bake until light brown, about 8-10 minutes. 10. Remove from cookie sheet, cool. 11. Fill thumbprints with jelly. |
