Three Cheese Baked Penne With Meat Sauce

This is an easy, but attractive spin on an ordinary meat sauce pasta dish. I created it when I wanted spaghetti, but something different. It's presentable enough for company.
Ingredients:
1 lb. lean ground beef
penne pasta (or whatever pasta you like)
1/2 cup chopped onion (i use sweet)
minced garlic (to taste)
2 -14.5 oz. cans tomato sauce
1 tbls. dried italian seasoning
1 tsp. dried oregano
1 tsp. dried thyme
1 tsp. dried basil
salt and pepper to taste
approximately 1 cup fresh sliced mushrooms ( or canned)
shredded mozzarella cheese (amount you like)
shredded parmesan cheese (amount you like)
cottage cheese, or ricotta if you prefer - about 1 cup
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350*
2. Brown ground beef, add chopped onion and garlic,
3. drain oil if necessary,
4. Add tomato sauce and seasonings,
5. Meanwhile boil water and cook pasta al dente
6. Add mushrooms and simmer meat sauce till bubbly
7. When pasta is done, add to meat sauce
8. Put half in casserole dish (I use an oval 2 high 11 x9 )
9. Top with some mozzarella and parmesan
10. Put rest of meat and pasta sauce on top
11. Top with cottage cheese dollops and cover with mozzarella and parmesan
12. Bake 40 minutes uncovered till bubbly and lightly browned.
