This savory, fresh, and colorful drink was inspired by Adam Seger of Nacional 27. It has its roots in the Bloody Mary but skips the vodka, subbing in cachaça, a distant cousin of rum. Raid the summer garden for cherry tomatoes and basil in season! Ingredients:
3 or 4 cherry tomatoes |
2 wedges lime |
2 to 4 fresh basil leaves, plus more for garnish |
2 1/2 ounces tomato juice |
2 ounces sagatiba pura or another cachaça |
worcestershire sauce |
hot sauce |
salt |
Directions:
1. Muddle the cherry tomatoes and lime in a shaker. Add the basil, tomato juice, and cachaça. Then season to taste with Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and salt. Add ice. Shake well and serve in a tall glass garnished with basil or cherry tomatoes speared on toothpicks. 2. From Spice & Ice: 60 Tongue-Tingling Cocktails by Kara Newman.
