This recipe is simple and easy. You need not use the jar stuff again. Ingredients:
4 tablespoons olive oil |
1/4 cup chopped garlic clove (peeled) |
1 1/2 cups chopped red onions (one large onion) |
2 (28 ounce) cans of italian crushed tomatoes with oregano and basil (i prefer furmano's brand) |
2 tablespoons white sugar |
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar |
2/3 cup fresh basil (washed and torn) |
1 tablespoon kosher salt |
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes |
Directions:
1. In a large pot, saute the onion and garlic in oil for 10 minutes. Add the two cans of tomatoes, salt, red wine vinegar, sugar and red pepper. Cook on med heat for 25 minutes and then add the fresh basil. I sometimes serve with meatballs, italian sausage, or use as a base for other pasta dishes. The amount of the marinara will seem to grow while it cooks. Do not over cook! 30 minutes is all a good marinara needs! |
