This is THE MOST famous after-dinner drink here in the Sultante of Oman. It's really light and is served in traditional Omani homes in a golden/silver jug on a straw mat. I once had a beautiful experience sipping this beverage in a traditional Omani home that had in it this most well-knit family who served from their soul; this is one experience and one drink I always hold close to my heart :)
Ingredients:
4 almonds
1 teaspoon tea leaves
4 -5 cardamoms
5 cm cinnamon sticks
3 -5 saffron strands
2 teaspoons sugar
Directions:
1. Blanch and peel the almonds.
2. Then, slice each almond finely and keep aside.
3. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil with the tea leaves, cardamom, cinnamon, saffron and sugar.
4. Allow it to simmer for 15 minutes in order to let the various flavours blend together.
5. Strain the 'Qahwa' into 4 cups.
6. Garnish with finely sliced (and peeled, of course) almonds.
7. Serve hot.
