Had a bit of bourbon leftover from the sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving and a new bottle of grade B maple syrup....why not? It would be even better with a glass rimmed in lemon juice and dipped in fine maple sugar. Read more . It is a surprisingly delicious drink. The maple syrup stands in for any simple syrup...A piece of muddled fresh ginger adds spice and a bit of cinnamon stick as a stirrer blends it all together..
Ingredients:
2 ounces rye or bourbon (i used makers mark)
3/4 ounce maple syrup grade b, not mrs. butterworth please
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
fresh lemon peel, at least one inch long
1 quarter size slice of fresh ginger, peeled
1 cinnamon stick
Directions:
1. Take a muddler and crush a piece of fresh ginger in the bottom of an old fashioned glass with a splash of bourbon and one twist of lemon peel. Crush it hard. Really pulverize it.
2. When it has given up all it's flavor.
3. Put the ginger, splash of bourbon and lemon peel mixture into a cocktail shaker.
4. Add a hefty shot bourbon.
5. Add maple syrup
6. Add fresh lemon juice
7. Add a few big ice cubes
8. Shake Shake Shake.
9. Strain over a tumbler of ice.
10. Add cinnamon stick as stirrer.
11. Sit back and enjoy........all the better if there is a hockey game on...but then I digress.
