We went up to the biltmore one year and my friend was working there as the chef assistance he gave me this recipe that I had. Is so good that if you do not take the magazine here is the recipe for you to enjoy. Ingredients:
8 cups cubed day old bread |
9 eggs |
2-1/4 cup milk |
1-3/4 cups heavy whipping cream |
1 cup sugar |
3/4 cup butter, melted |
3 tsp. vanilla extract |
1-1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon |
caramel sauce |
1 cup sugar |
1/4 cup water |
1 tbsp. lemon juice |
2 tbsp. butter |
1 cup heavy whipping cream |
i cup golden raisins (optional) |
2 cups pecan halves garnish for top (optional) |
dollop of whipped cream for each serving (optional) |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350*F. 2. Place bread cubes in a greased 13x9x2 baking dish. 3. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, butter, sugar, vanilla and cinnamon. 4. Pour evenly over the bread. 5. Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. 6. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting. 7. Meanwhile in a small saucepan bring sugar, water and lemon juice to a boil. 8. Reduce heat to medium. 9. Cook until sugar is dissolved and mixture turns a golden amber color. 10. Stir in butter until melted. 11. Add cream. 12. Remove from the heat. 13. Serve with bread pudding. |
