Over the years, I've tried different pie crusts & some of them are OK...but THIS one is the BEST yet!!! Put away all of your mixing contraptions, because this is HANDS ON ONLY...it's a little messy, but the results are well worth it. Ingredients:
2 cups flour (i prefer unbleached) |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 cup butter flavor crisco |
1/2 cup water, ice cold |
Directions:
1. *Use CRISCO shortenings ONLY. 2. Sift together the flour & salt into a medium size bowl. 3. Add the butter flavor CRISCO. 4. Using your clean hands ONLY, mix together until small, pea-size pieces. 5. Add the cold water & mix until everything is moistened - do NOT overmix! 6. On a floured board or table, knead 5-6 times as you would bread. 7. Form into a ball & SLAP. 8. Let rest 10-15 minutes. 9. Divide as needed & roll to desired size. 10. The LESS you handle pie dough, the BETTER! 11. This makes enough for 1, 10 inch, double-crust pie. 12. If making a single-crust, poke holes all over the bottom & sides, using a fork - this will help prevent shrinkage. 13. This freezes very well. 14. *If using for a savory pie, such as pot pie or pasty, use regular CRISCO. |
