The Best of Old Time Baked Beans |

This is an old time favorite recipe for baked beans..Simply tasteful with lots of fibre and goodness.You can smell this cooking,and your family will request them quite often..Great as a main dish,or use them as a side with salads etc.Anyway you choose will be a hit... Ingredients:
454 g white beans |
5 cups cold water |
2 small sliced onions |
2 teaspoons cider vinegar |
1 tablespoon splenda brown sugar blend |
1/2 teaspoon prepared mustard |
1/4 cup molasses |
1/2 cup tomato ketchup |
1 dash black pepper |
1/4 lb low salt bacon or 1/4 lb pork belly |
Directions:
1. Soak beans over night. 2. Drain beans. 3. Add 5 cups of cold water, cover,heat till boiling,then simmer about 30 minutes till beans are tender. 4. Drain beans again. 5. Place the sliced onions into bottom of roasting pan or casserole dish. 6. Add the remaining ingredients with the beans,mix to blend together,then pour that mixture to the roasting pan or casserole dish. 7. Place the slices of Bacon on top of the beans . 8. Add enough water to cover the beans. 9. Cover with lid and bake slow for 6-7 hours (depending when beans are cooked)at 250 degrees. 10. When beans are cooked remove 1 cup of the beans and mash and return to the beans. 11. Mix together and serve - 12. (Salt could be added if need be But i do not use salt). |
